CurcuVITA®, the new generation of curcumin!

Turmeric, a popular spice, is basically the rhizome of the long thistle (Curcuma longa L.), also sometimes called the Indian saffron.

In the rhizome, turmeric contains mostly (about 70%) starch, resin, and up to 5% of polyphenolic compounds known as curcuminoids. The curcuminoids present in turmeric are cyclocurcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin and curcumin as the most active component.

Unfortunately, due to its hydrophobic nature, curcumin is poorly soluble in water, which results in its limited absorption and rapid metabolism. Therefore, to obtain the maximum benefit from the properties of curcumin, it is important to select the best raw material with the highest standardization and the most bioavailable form, as well as to support the formula by selecting appropriate additives to improve its bioavailability.

The reductase system at the cellular level then converts the curcumin to Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC). Studies have shown that it has better bioavailability and stability at physiological pH than curcumin itself that may also be aiding its transportation in the biological system.

CurcuVITA® contains patented curcumin C3 Reduct®, which is standardized to contain 95% tetrahydrocurcuminoids!
It is the only preparation in Poland standardized to tetrahydrocurcuminoids.

To fully take advantage of the potential of curcumin, research has been conducted for many
years on methods to increase its bioavailability. The most common method is the addition of piperine, a natural bioavailability enhancer of nutrients. In CurcuVITA®, we have used patented, certified BioPerine® piperine, standardized to 95% piperine. BioPerine® increases bioavailability by:

  • an increase in blood supply to the digestive tract,
  • an increase in the emulsification of the intestinal contents (in the case of water-soluble vitamins, such as B2),
  • an increase in the active transport of nutrients (in the case of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin D).

The combination of active constituents in the supplement aims to:

  • support the body’s detoxification processes,
  • increase the activity potential of the second phase of hepatic detoxification,
  • support anti-inflammatory activity,
  • ensure antioxidant protection,
  • support regeneration of the body.

After taking the supplement, urine may take on an intense yellow to orange colour due to the presence of riboflavin and curcumin.

Standardization, i.e. the indicator showing the amount of the active ingredient with a specific health-promoting or therapeutic effect, determines whether an extract has health-promoting values.

What to pay attention to when choosing extracts? We should always take into account the standardization to the active substance.

In practice, this is as follows:

  • 100 mg extract standardized to 30% active substance = 30 mg active substance,
  • 200 mg extract standardized to 50% active substance = 100 mg active substance.

Many manufacturers compete with one another, boasting about their product value as being determined by DER. Is DER in fact a determinant of the product quality?
Absolutely not! DER does not determine the health value of a substance! DER determines how many kilograms of biomass/raw material are needed to obtain 1 kilogram of the extract.

DER does not indicate in any way the content of active substances contained in the extract. Yields and harvests depend on certain factors such as weather or phytogeographical conditions; the same plant with exactly the same genome under different conditions will produce a different level of metabolites. To illustrate, in a rainy season, the amount of biomass will be higher but of poorer quality compared to a dry season or optimal conditions, so the amount of health-promoting substances may vary from season to season. This does not affect the DER value but does affect the standardization.
